Bringing your pet to Seattle

Pickup covers Edmonton and nearby towns, including St. Albert, Sherwood Park and Spruce Grove. Winter cold is the main thing we plan around when leaving Edmonton. Coming into Seattle, your pet trades snow for rain: winters there are mild and wet.

We plan the safest way for your pet, based on the breed, age, the weather and your dates, and we set the timing with you so someone is there at both ends. You can travel the same day or another day: many owners go first, get the new place ready, and have their pet follow.

What your pet needs for the US and Washington

Entering the US

  • Dogs: at least 6 months old, a microchip a universal scanner can read, and a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. The form is free and online, and we help you with it. The dog must look healthy on arrival.
  • Cats: the CDC asks only that a cat looks healthy on arrival.

This is for pets that have only been in Canada or the US in the last 6 months. If your dog has been anywhere else, tell us and we check what applies.

Entering Washington

  • Dogs, cats and ferrets 90 days and older need a current rabies vaccine. Washington has no exemptions.
  • Washington asks for a vet health certificate for dogs, cats and ferrets coming into the state. A family pet travelling with its owner is exempt, but your pet travels without you, so we plan for one and tell you when to book your vet.
  • Dogs 6 months and older may also need a heartworm test or preventive. We check this with you.

The full rules in both directions are in our guide to moving a pet between Canada and the US.

Last checked against the official pages on October 9, 2026.

Border and state rules can change, so we check the official pages again for every move.

How to help your pet settle in

Edmonton to Seattle: questions

What does it cost to move a pet from Edmonton to Seattle?
It depends on the two addresses, your date, how many pets move and what each one needs, such as a crate or a vet visit. We plan every move across the border with you and email your quote once it is ready, with a list of what it covers.
How long does the move take?
It depends on your pet, your dates and the papers. Your quote gives you the pickup day and the delivery day, and we keep you posted until your pet is home.
Who takes care of customs?
We arrange customs clearance through a licensed customs broker, as part of the move, and tell you which papers we need from you. Border officers make the final decision on every pet.
Can my puppy under 6 months move to Seattle?
The CDC asks for a dog to be at least 6 months old when it enters the US. If your puppy is younger, ask us before you plan anything, and we look at your case with you.
Does my cat need papers to enter the US?
The CDC does not ask for a rabies certificate for cats, only that the cat looks healthy on arrival. Washington does: dogs, cats and ferrets 90 days and older need a current rabies vaccine. Washington has no exemptions.
Can I ride along with my pet?
No. Your pet travels without you. You, or an adult you name, takes over at the new door.
Can you move a snub-nosed breed?
Yes. Pugs, French bulldogs, boxers, Persian cats and other snub-nosed breeds can move with us. We plan the safest way for them and keep them out of the heat.
What if my pet is going to be sold, adopted or bred?
Then it counts as a commercial import, with stricter rules on both sides of the border. Tell us in the quote form and we look at it by hand.
