Seattle Pet Valet

Across the border

Pet relocation between Seattle and Canada

We move dogs and cats between Seattle and Canada in both directions, from one door to the other. We plan the safest way for your pet, check the papers each country asks for, and arrange customs clearance through a licensed customs broker.

Anywhere else in Canada

The cities above are the moves we plan most often. They are not the only ones. We also move pets between Seattle and Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Halifax, Quebec City, Saskatoon and towns in between. The form works the same way for all of them: both addresses, your date and your pet, and we email your quote once it is ready.

How a move across the border works

You tell us where, when and which pets. We work out the safest way for each pet: the distance, the breed, the age and the season all count. You never have to choose the route or book anything yourself.

Before the move, we send you the list of papers your pet needs and the date to get each one. Going into Canada, that is mostly a rabies certificate. Coming into the US, a dog needs a microchip and a CDC Dog Import Form receipt, and Washington asks for its own papers on top. We can book the visit with your own vet and arrange the ride there.

On the day, your pet is picked up at home, customs clearance is arranged through a licensed customs broker, and your pet is handed over at the new door to you or an adult you name. You travel separately, the same day or another day.

The rules, from the official pages

Our guide to moving a pet between Canada and the US covers both directions: the CDC rules for dogs and cats coming into the US, the CFIA rules for pets going into Canada, puppies and young dogs, and what border officers check. For Washington's own rules, see pet entry rules by state.

Seattle and Canada: questions

Do I choose whether my pet goes by road or by air?
No, we plan that for you. Distance, breed, age, the weather and your dates decide the safest way, and some moves use both. Your quote covers the whole trip, door to door.
Do you only move pets to and from Seattle?
Seattle is where most of our moves start or end, but we plan moves between Canada and other US cities too. Enter both addresses in the form and we take it from there.
My dog goes back and forth between Canada and the US. Do I need a new CDC form every time?
Not always. The CDC says one Dog Import Form receipt covers repeat entries from the same country for 6 months from the date it was issued. A trip through another country in between needs a new form.
How far ahead should I book?
A few weeks is best. It leaves time to check the rabies certificate, book the vet visit if your pet needs one, and fill in the CDC form for a dog coming into the US.
Can you move birds, reptiles or other pets across the border?
Ask us. Birds, reptiles and other temperature-sensitive pets get a custom quote, and some need permits on one side of the border or both.
